Playing for the dragon

‘Playing for the dragon’ is our motto.

Whether you’re playing for our national teams or a Welsh club, whether you’re a fan, parent, volunteer, or member of our clubhouse, you’re doing your part in representing the dragon and are a treasured member of our hockey family.

National teams

Our national teams have shot up the world rankings over recent years. Our senior men’s team is now ranked in the world top 20, and our women in the top 25.

At the 2021 World Cup Qualifiers, both teams defied expectations and made it all the way to the finals. The men went one step further – they won the tournament and made history by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time!

We are also proud to have had 4 Welsh athletes in the GB Hockey team at Tokyo 2020: Leah Wilkinson, Sarah Jones, Jacob Draper & Rupert Shipperley.

Clubs & members

We have over 6,000 members and have hockey clubs located all across Wales. We are immensely proud of all the work they do to allow everyone to get involved in hockey.

Some of our clubs compete in the highest England Hockey Leagues. Swansea Ladies were recently promoted to the premier division of the EHL, and Cardiff & Met Men play in Division One North.

Age is just a number

We believe people of all ages can play and enjoy hockey. While our clubs teach hockey to children under 10, our Master squads represent Wales on the international stage from the over 40s to the over 75s!
