Cairns Hockey is a not for profit organisation that plays an important role in supporting the on-going development of hockey across the Cairns and surrounding regions. Cairns Hockey is in an exciting period and we are now seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and driven Hockey Development Officer to promote, develop and grow all aspects of hockey within the Cairns region by creating great relationships with clubs, schools and PE teachers with a particular focus on school markets focusing around growing participation at a grass roots level. To be considered for this position you will need to demonstrate the following essential criteria: • A sound understanding of Cairns Hockey structure and system • An understanding of Club & School environments within Cairns Hockey • Level 1 or 2 Hockey Coaching Accreditation • Ability to lead and interact confidently with groups of participants and stakeholders • Demonstrative ability to innovate • Strong Computer literacy, along with Social Media comprehension • Able to work after normal business hours and on weekends • Current Qld Driver’s License • WWC Blue Card • Excellent written and verbal communications • Demonstrated ability to operate under pressure situations whilst achieving outcomes • A self-motivator, who achieves results autonomously or via teamwork • Good customer relationship/communication skills • Understanding of participation challenges in community sport All applicants will be required to present a current Child Protection Qld Blue Card prior to commencement. POSITION REPORTS TO: Club Development & Competitions Team Leader – (formerly RCD) KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI’S) Engagement • Implement the Play Hockey campaign across the entire Cairns region. • Deliver opportunities for All Abilities players to participate in hockey programs. • Development and promotion of school holiday programs as required • Coordination Prep – 4program at Cairns Hockey • Provide Come and Try opportunities – coordination and delivery in collaboration with local clubs • Promote Come and Try and Introductory Hockey participation to the young male marketplace. School Programs and Competitions • Develop a professional working relationship with all identified schools in the region. • Implement conversion and transition strategies to drive school / club player transition • Ensure that a minimum of 90% of school in the Region have active hockey engagement • In conjunction with Club Development and Competitions team Leader develop and provide ongoing education opportunities for school- teachers and supporters. • Coordinate and deliver all P-4 competition in collaboration with clubs and junior coordination committee. • Coordinate and deliver Sporting Schools program as required • Coordinate meetings with club junior coordinators within the Region. • Provide opportunities for schools to link with local clubs. • Analyse school participation data for targeted intervention. • Development and promotion of school holiday programs, player visits and promotions. Junior Competition • Work closely with Club Development and Competitions Team Lead to assist in the running of the Junior Competitions • Implement agreed junior hockey strategies and pathways. • Deliver monthly reports to clubs and junior competitions coordinators. • Work with Club Development & Competitions Team Lead and Cairns Hockey Officiating Committee on junior umpiring development COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION: • General knowledge of the hockey industry and the various stakeholders. • Taking independent action to positively influence events without receiving direct instructions whilst remaining in the limits of defined accountabilities. • Computer literate - Advanced knowledge of Access, Word, Excel, Explorer, Outlook and PowerPoint. • Ability to organise and prioritise a course of action for self and to accomplish goals. • Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media, including presentations at meetings, in a manner that engages the audience and ensures comprehension of the message. • Ability to identify priorities, issues and potential problems by integrating information from different sources and drawing logical inferences and valid interpretations from the data. • Ensuring stakeholders and clients are always properly serviced. • Ability to make carefully weighted decisions and take actions based on the information available, taking situational constraints into account. • Willingness to contribute to the team and to work effectively and cooperatively with other team members, in order to achieve team and organisational goals. • Ability to recognise a problem, identify possible causes, generate alternative solutions and select the most appropriate course of action considering all factors.
