EHL Recap - HC Bloemendaal

The dutch giants were favourites going into the tournament and proved their cause as they sealed their fourth Euro Hockey League Championship. Having said this, it wasn’t made easy as they faced Royal Leopold, the Belgian champions in the semifinals last Saturday. HC Bloemendaal were off to a shaky start as they couldn’t get into their usual rhythm. They found themselves 1-0 down by half time, and following what seemed to be a very effective team talk, they went on to win a number of short corners and with Wouter Jolie scoring off a rebound sending the game to shoot-outs. Maurits Visser, what a performance by the young goalie to save the first shootout and the final flick to send his team into the EHL final.

Having had a day's rest, Bloemendaal were set to face Atletic Terrassa in the Final. They started off strong as Yannick Van Der Drift opened the score shortly followed by a second goal from Thierry Brinkmann, which saw them 2-0 up after only 5 minutes. As the game progressed Bloemendaal continued to assert their dominance scoring another 3 goals as Florian Fuchs and TIm Swaen got on the scoresheet, whilst Thierry Brinkmann doubled his goal tally. An exceptional team performance saw the Bloemendaal win yet another EHL trophy.

Arthur Van Doren was awarded with the Scorrd MVP for the Mens 2021 EHL with an outstanding performance in the final.
