Men’s First Team Head Coach Deeside Ramblers Hockey Club Head Coach Men’s 1st Team Deeside Ramblers HC, based at its club-owned facility near Tarporley, Cheshire, fields 7 senior men’s teams, 4 ladies’ teams and has a large and thriving junior section. The Men’s 1s have just won the Conference North of the Men’s Hockey League. Role summary: We are looking for a first team head coach who can demonstrate a track-record of success, who can deliver our performance objectives, and who can develop individual and team-based skills so that players & the team grow whilst also enjoying their hockey experience at the club. We expect the coach to commit to the twice per week training sessions (Tuesday & Thursday) and weekend matches including pre-season. Key responsibilities: • Create a playing strategy for the squad that recognises individual and collective skills and capabilities. • Identify player recruitment needs beyond the internal talent pipeline and pursue targets as agreed with the club. • Lead the delivery of engaging and energising training sessions to deliver match day performance. • Analyse match day performance, learn from it, and with the senior players agree short and longer-term training objectives and measurable outcomes. • Communicate clearly the playing strategy, individual roles within that, and provide clear and constructive feedback that enables continuous improvement for the individual and team. • Work with the other coaches to identify and develop players for the future and manage the talent pipeline. • Create a culture and work ethic that inspires players across the club to achieve their hockey ambition. • With the team manager agree selection and communicate that to the selection committee. Person specification: We wish to appoint a coach with the following attributes: • A positive, can-do attitude, and who is quick to recognise challenges and is creative in arriving at engaging solutions. • A track-record of creating a positive environment that encourages talent to grow and develop. • Strong communicator who is able to clearly share information, required outcomes, and who engages players and others towards shared goals. • A self-starter who is happy to work independently but is equally at home building the coaching team. The successful applicant will be appropriately qualified, have hockey appropriate first aid, safeguarding and health & safety qualifications (or a willingness to update these if out of date), and will carry their own insurance. Terms and how to apply: The successful applicant will be expected to sign a self-employment services agreement with the club. Payment for services will be competitive depending on experience. Under normal circumstances we would have asked short-listed candidates to conduct training sessions with members of the 1s squad but in the current environment that is not going to be possible so anything that candidates can do to bring their application to life including videos of training sessions or match play would help inform our decision making.
